The who, what, when, where, why and how of the Lint LUV-R

Who - The Lint LUV-R was designed by Blair Robert Jollimore

What -
The Lint LUV-R consists of a filter housing containing a cleanable, reusable stainless steel filter. It is a simple, durable and effective design that facilitates a quick and easy cleaning of the filter.

When - October 2001

Where - Waverley Nova Scotia, Canada

Why -To prevent septic system failure by removing the tremendous amount of untreatable synthetic solids being introduced into septic systems created by agitation of clothing and wastewater discharge from washing machines.

How - It is mounted to a wall or under a shelf or cabinet in the laundry room next to the washing machine. The washing machine discharge hose adapts to the inlet port of the Lint LUV-R and the discharge passes through the filter and out through the center to the outlet port of the filter housing leaving behind the untreatable synthetic solids. A clear hose directs the discharge from the outlet port into the washing machine drainpipe that leads to the septic system. The filter bowl and drain hose are clear to see the filter in operation and the accumulation of lint in the bowl.

Once the filter bowl is visually obstructed by lint it is time for cleaning (every three weeks on average with a family of four). Cleaning is accomplished by simply turning the filter bowl 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise and lowering. The stainless steel filter is then lowered from the housing and removed from the filter bowl. The bowl will be full of water and must be dumped into a strained sink. The lint is then removed from the outside of the filter and discarded into the garbage. The inside of the bowl is wiped clean around its sealing surface to ensure a good seal. The filter is placed back into the bowl and both are raised to the housing and pushed up into place. The bowl is rotated clockwise 1/8 of a turn and that locks it in place. (There is a lock indicator mark that shows that you have it in place properly). You are now set to do laundry again.

Please refer to the technical specifications and advantages section for more specific details and information regarding the Lint LUV-R.
